Cell Phone & Electronics Policy

Pathways Prep has smart students, not smart devices.

From bell to bell, students may not use phones, tablets, smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, personal laptops, or similar devices. At the start of the day, the first period teacher tells students where phones are stored; students return to that same place at the end of the day to pick them up.

If you need to reach your student during the day, please call the front office at 909-949-7805. We will help you reach them.

Exceptions (Ed Code 48901.5, 48901.7): a student may possess or use a device during instructional time if:

• a licensed physician says it's necessary for the student's health
• it's required by the student's IEP

Privacy: devices may never be used to infringe on someone else's privacy. Because of their recording/photo capability, smart glasses may never be worn in classrooms, locker rooms, or restrooms, no exceptions.

Confiscation and violations:

• Any violation results in confiscation by Pathways Prep.
• Teacher must notify the parent/guardian of the reason and log the incident in Aeries under "Intervention."
• Confiscated devices must be picked up by the student's guardian.
• 2nd and later violations add detention or Saturday School, plus guardian pickup.

Ed Code 51512: The Legislature finds that the use by any person, including a pupil, of any electronic listening or recording device in any classroom of the elementary and secondary schools without the prior consent of the teacher and the principal of the school given to promote an educational purpose disrupts and impairs the teaching process and discipline in the elementary and secondary schools, and such use is prohibited. Any person, other than a pupil, who willfully violates this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

Any pupil violating this section shall be subject to appropriate disciplinary action.

This section shall not be construed as affecting the powers, rights, and liabilities arising from the use of electronic listening or recording devices as provided for by any other provision of law.
